Today's Top Story
The Senate today approved its amnesty bill, which more properly could have been called the "No Illegal Alien Left Behind Act", thereby proving that President Bush would be more accurate in his speeches if he would modify his favorite line this way: “We are a nation of [un-enforced] laws”.
Why should anyone believe that the “English is the Language of the Land” amendment, the “troops at the borders” promise, or any of the “rules” that will now allow “braceros” to become “citizens” will ever be enforced? When this very bill, in and of itself, flies in the face of EXISTING laws which are already being ignored, and which are now institutionally ignored by this very bill.
The second biggest story in California is the re-enforcement of the High School Exit Exam, which is just another example of “self-esteem policy” and irresponsibility run amok. Proponents of BOTH sides of this argument are wrong!
The anti-test crowd makes the point that if a student has passed all of his coursework, then he shouldn’t be penalized for failing to pass an arbitrary test. But every other industry “tests” competency levels of it’s employees! Grow up and allow students to experience natural consequences!!!
But I must say to the pro-test crowd that the fact still remains that if schools weren’t so “dumbed down” and their teachers so fearful of damaging the self-esteem of their students (or more accurately, fearful of their students’ litigious parents if they should actually fail a student for inadequate work), then a transcript of passing classes WOULD BE THE PROOF that students had achieved proficiency in their classes! As things are now, a passing grade in most classes means nothing—therefore the need for the test. But why not improve the quality of the schools, instead?!?
Again, the lesson here, kiddies, is that the unfortunate hallmark of our current American society irresponsibility, and that there is NO need to follow any of the rules. Even the rules-makers have no expectation that the rules and laws that they create are actually going to be enforced. The creation of the rules is just THEIR way of avoiding responsibility and keeping jobs in which they do nothing productive, and which they should not hold.
So, eat, drink, and be merry—fail your classes, skip your tests, jump the borders, don’t pay taxes, drive as fast as you want, HELL—with no license if you want to!
…For tomorrow we ALL will die…

THE PRESIDENT SHOOTS A MAGAZINE OF BLANKS AGAIN!
The immigration issue is so easy to solve: 1. Yes, it is largely impossible to deport the 12 million illegal immigrants currently in this nation. BUT, that doesn't mean we should give them a carte blanche to continue to violate our laws. That is why: 2. I am beginning to accept the "guest worker program" FOR THOSE ILLEGALS ALREADY HERE. There is no "hope" that new illegals will obey our laws, but those already here are already paying rent, doing work, and are largely a part of our culture. BUT, if they are documented, (there's that word again!) at least we can know who is who. This will only work if: 3. AGGRESSIVE DEPORTATION OF UNDOCUMENTED ALIENS is the common practice and the accepted norm. After we have given "get out of jail free" cards to all of the 12 million illegals already here, there should be NO excuse for anyone to be undocumented. Anyone caught with out papers MUST be IMMEDIATELY DEPORTED! 4. Put a halt to further watering down of our American culture by MAKING ENGLISH THE OFFICIAL LANGUAGE OF THIS NATION with expectations that learning English is the first step toward legitimate American citizenship.
It is that simple, George. It isn't that you lack the balls to force this through, but rather that you lack the will...

The effect of the "Day Without a Mexican" in So. Cali.
While I worked today I checked in on the websites of the major newspapers in San Diego County, and on the way home I listened to L.A. radio, and it appears that the impact of the "Day Without an Immigrant" on Southern California (considered by many Mexican activists to be the Capitol of Aztlan) was largely POSITIVE!
The majority of the comments I read and heard were along the lines of: "Traffic was GREAT without all of the extra cars on the highways!", "I was able to find parking at the mall and inside there weren't crowds of people who weren't speaking English", and "I had to go to the emergency room and I was able to get right in, when usually it is a 2-hour wait!".
The comment I liked the MOST, though, was, "Why didn't all of the illegals take their "day off" going to the Immigration Office to start the process toward legal citizenship rather than hanging aroung the parks chanting that they have "rights to be here" without observing the laws of our country?"
So, there you have it...
For MY part, I drove around several of my favorite Mexican restaurants and took note of the ones that were closed, so that I can mark them OFF of my list of favorite Mexican restaurants!
I HOPE THE PROTESTERS FEEL SUCCESSFUL!
