Today's Top Story

The Senate today approved its amnesty bill, which more properly could have been called the "No Illegal Alien Left Behind Act", thereby proving that President Bush would be more accurate in his speeches if he would modify his favorite line this way: “We are a nation of [un-enforced] laws”.

Why should anyone believe that the “English is the Language of the Land” amendment, the “troops at the borders” promise, or any of the “rules” that will now allow “braceros” to become “citizens” will ever be enforced? When this very bill, in and of itself, flies in the face of EXISTING laws which are already being ignored, and which are now institutionally ignored by this very bill.

The second biggest story in California is the re-enforcement of the High School Exit Exam, which is just another example of “self-esteem policy” and irresponsibility run amok. Proponents of BOTH sides of this argument are wrong!

The anti-test crowd makes the point that if a student has passed all of his coursework, then he shouldn’t be penalized for failing to pass an arbitrary test. But every other industry “tests” competency levels of it’s employees! Grow up and allow students to experience natural consequences!!!

But I must say to the pro-test crowd that the fact still remains that if schools weren’t so “dumbed down” and their teachers so fearful of damaging the self-esteem of their students (or more accurately, fearful of their students’ litigious parents if they should actually fail a student for inadequate work), then a transcript of passing classes WOULD BE THE PROOF that students had achieved proficiency in their classes! As things are now, a passing grade in most classes means nothing—therefore the need for the test. But why not improve the quality of the schools, instead?!?

Again, the lesson here, kiddies, is that the unfortunate hallmark of our current American society irresponsibility, and that there is NO need to follow any of the rules. Even the rules-makers have no expectation that the rules and laws that they create are actually going to be enforced. The creation of the rules is just THEIR way of avoiding responsibility and keeping jobs in which they do nothing productive, and which they should not hold.

So, eat, drink, and be merry—fail your classes, skip your tests, jump the borders, don’t pay taxes, drive as fast as you want, HELL—with no license if you want to!

…For tomorrow we ALL will die…
