A noteworthy day in the news today...and news which helps me to clarify some some views and convictions.
Of course the biggest news story of the day is the choice of Benedict XVI as the new Pope. I was intrigued all along, but especially when the networks started interviewing various wags from different fringe groups in the (mostly American) Catholic church who are upset that this Pope won't approve married priests, gay marriage, abortions, women in the priesthood, tolerance of other religions and practices, etc., etc., etc. regarding their particular fringe idea. The more I heard from these whiners how dissapointed/angry/fearful/disgusted they are, the more I began to LIKE Pope Benedict XVI!!!
The other news story that rang my bells was the meltdown in the confirmation hearing for UN Ambassador nominee Bolton. I have already loved the notion that President Bush nominated a man to the UN who has been openly critical of the UN! Today, however, the senators nearly crapped their starched drawers over the possibility that at some time in his past, Bolton might have (prepare yourselves!) hurt some peoples' feelings! I REALLY like this guy now!!!
Both of these stories demonstrate a character trait of mine that I've already been aware of: I enjoy pissng people off! Especially whining nannies and sniveling ninnies and professional victicrats of all stripes.
Come on over here so I can pop you in the nose!

I hereby give notice to the world: I AM CHANGING A POLITICAL STANCE.
First, let me say that on a spiritual level, in terms of pragmatism, and in terms of justice and fairness, I BELIEVE IN THE DEATH PENALTY. I agree with the biblical stance of "an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth"; I believe that the only TRUE deterrent for violent crime is the permanent elimination of the criminal; I don't see the sense of paying for the annual upkeep of a criminal that we NEVER want to see on the street again; and in terms of justice, specifically when it comes to crimes against children, for instance, I think that the execution of the convicted should be slow, painful, bloody, and preferably at the hands of citizen fathers armed with rusty garden implements...
BUT, I am changing my political stance on capital punishment. I now publicly am endorsing a revocation of the death penalty. Here are my reasons: 1. Since the rest of the world does not agree with our current form of justice, they refuse to extradite our criminals to us--therefore there is NO administration of justice... 2. In such places as the People's Republik of Kalifornia, a death-row inmate can sit for 20+ years before being executed, and the list is getting longer, since we SO RARELY execute our death-row inmates... and... 3. A death sentence forces an automatic appeal, at taxpayer expense, which might be avoided if we were to sentence criminals to no more that LWOPP (Life Without the Possibility for Parole).
In short, not because it is right, but rather since we are so lousy at enforcing our death-penalty (except for Texas--THEY know how to administer justice! But I digress...), we might as well go with LWOPP and forgo the whining of the politically correct and globalism crowd...
See? I'm growing!
