Ok, I've changed...but so has everyone else.

A couple of decades ago, while I was still in Idaho, doing occasional preaching in local Baptist churches, I started out to break the ice in my home town pulpit by joking, "I could never be a Republican--I just can't pull off the suit". I then stepped out from behind the pulpit to model my slacks and shirt and tie, but due to my frumpy body, I explained, "No matter what I wear, it still looks like a t-shirt and jeans".

That was the grey-suit & red tie Reagan 90's, and I was a Volkswagen microbus driving, sandal-wearing, bearded bleeding-heart-liberal Democrat.

Well, the Clinton presidency, 9/11, and a host of other factors helped turn me into a raging ultra-conservative Republican. I'm still bearded, still wear the sandals and shorts, and now drive a Jeep that, frankly, makes the microbus look like a Lexus. But I look around me and I see that now it is the Republicans who look like Ted Nugent, Charlton Heston & George "Dubya" Bush...in short, like me!

Driving home from the San Diego Zoo tonight I spied a shiny new Cambrio sporting an "Anybody but Bush--vote Democratic in 2004" bumper sticker, being driven by a knit-suited, perfectly coiffed soccer mom with the paranoid stare of a person who truly believes that the world cannot continue to spin without her guidance.

As I passed her in my pickup, wearing my boonie hat, cargo shorts and my long-sleaved "Bryn Mawr Hell Week 2003" t-shirt, I realized that the tables have turned completely 'round.

I've changed...in ways...but so has everything else!
