Yesterday I was treated to a live, in-the-moment, real-time, "these are not actors, but the actual participants", life-in-microcosm example of the futility and wrong-headedness of Socialism--and afterward had a personal epiphany explaining why so many supposedly-well-meaning idiots are still duped into promoting its practices and preaching its "promises".

Welcome to The People's Republik of Kalifornia. I work for a Government-run, tax-funded Adolescent Day Care and Indoctrination Center, aka, a public high school. I, and a group of other "Education Experts" (teachers) were discussing our annual crop of failing seniors.

Specifically, we were discussing a particular "student" who, for the past 3 years has sucked raw every teat on the welfare sow--a participant in a school-based giveaway program which provided him with free job-training, free tutoring, free counseling, free wilderness camping experiences, free lunch, free bus service, free legal-aid, even free martial-arts training. Formerly housed in a Social Services funded group home, this young adult (who has turned 18--exceeding the age-limit for compulsory education) has recently been kicked out of a state-funded foster placement due to his rampant misbehaviors, and is now "living on the street"--which is do-gooder code for bunking night-by-night with a variety of different sluts, drug-users and vandals--in other words, his friends.

One of the "Experts", the one who runs the giveaway program on our campus (and who's salary, coincidentally, is dependent on the continued existence of "poor unfortunates" such as our subject of the day), was trying to convince all of the other teachers why we shouldn't kick the bum out for his complete lack of school work over the last grading period, a recent escalation of his defiance and misbehavior, and his detiorating attendance.

After "singing the blues" about the horrible situation into which fate has so callously placed this poor innocent (without ONE MENTION of any of the student's current situation being a consequence of his own actions!), this "Child Welfare Advocate" gushed about the ADDITIONAL services he himself has provided to the student in the way of cash-handouts to "tide him over" until his next paycheck (from the job that the giveaway program had found for him)--and the existence of a $500 check (again, from the giveaway program) that was intended to be a reward after graduation, but which the do-gooder was considering giving to the kid early to "help him get through this tough situation".

Another of the teachers, one who holds political views similar to my own, commented, "he seems to have money for drugs". I stated that the $500 should be held out as a carrot to entice him to improve his behavior, attendance and scholarship in order to graduate--after which the do-gooder asked ME if I would contribute to the kid until his next paycheck. My response was, "I didn't piss away his last paycheck--I'm certainly not giving him MY cash to piss away".

The final outcome of this whole discussion is not important--but serves to demonstrate the endless lengths to which socialist-do-gooders are willing to throw other people's money. As effective as shoving your money down a rat hole...

THEN CAME MY EPIPHANY! I now understand why these self-described "humanitarians" CONTINUE to throw (our) good money after bad, DESPITE OVERWHELMING PROOF that such giveaway programs do more to REWARD IRRESPONSIBILITY among their recipients than to promote achievement and success:

It is because they realize, at least subconsiously, that their programs and systems are USELESS and that, despite all of the time and effort they have invested into their philosophies, they have nothing of true value to offer to their subjects--so they salve their consciences by giving away money.

In other words, what they are actually doing by their "expressions of care" is feeding their own self-centeredness! SOCIALISM = NARCISSISM! They are attempting to fill their empty souls and defuse their self-guilt by deluding others (and themselves) with the illusion that they actually give a damn!

This also explains why they so vehemently deride those who would condone less bail-outs and more individual responsiblity and natural consequences. It is why Liberals continually paint Conservatives as heartless, ignorant, non-enlightened. They are fighting not only for their livelihood, but for their very self-image!

It is no wonder that "humanitarians" fight so dirty!
